be designed so that birds cannot roost or nest on or in them. |

greenhouse cooling pads, vents, and shutters to screen out plant pests and to screen in biological

| 4. | Pipe Insulation or Furniture in Laboratories, Kitchens,
and Animal Rooms: All pipe insulation must have smooth surfaces with no gaps. Do not install
pegboard in kitchens, animal rooms or laboratories. All permanently installed furniture in kitchens,
animal rooms and laboratories must be sealed at points of attachment, under counter tops, and inside
to prevent pests from harboring in the gaps. All built-in cabinets, closets and similar
casement/millwork must be sealed leaving no gaps for pests to hide in. |

| 5. | Landscaping: Decorative lattices (bird roosts) shall
not be placed over entrances to food services facilities. Maintain proper earth to wood clearance
and proper drainage away from structures. During landscape renovation, do not raise the soil level
against the building. Do not plant Monterey and Bishop pines near pedestrian areas (blackbird
nesting). |

Windows opening to museums and collection storage areas must be screened to exclude museum pests
(beetles and moths). Interior doors in museums and collection storage areas must be tight-fitting,
including sweeps, to prevent pests (beetles, mice and moths) from passing through. |

| 8. | Exterior Pest Barriers and Seals: Seal all construction
from foundation to roof to prevent access by pests such as bats, birds and rats. Porches and ramps
shall be sealed to the foundation, or 1/4" galvanized mesh shall be used to form a barrier to digging
pests (rats and skunks). This screen must extend 12" into the ground and must have a right-angled,
6" wide, outward extending shelf to prevent burrowing under the screen. |

| 9. | Roof Tiles: Eave roof tiles shall have bird stops
to exclude bats, bees and umbrella wasps. |

| 10. | Ventilation: Ventilation louvers shall be screened with
wire mesh to exclude birds, rodents, cats, etc., (coordinate with mechanical requirements). |

| 11. | Windows - Frame Design: Weepholes in window frames
shall be designed to prevent access by paperwasps. Windows shall be designed to prevent harborage
and access for pests with no clear passageways to inside. |

| 12. | Slab Construction: Use a 3" layer of sand (#3
Lapis available from RMC Lonestar) for the sand barrier underneath slab construction. Use #3 Lapis
in place of unsifted sand to provide a permanent sand barrier to termites (both western subterranean
and Formosan termites). This will prevent termites from penetrating cracks in slab
construction. |
