| 2-18 | Tree Protection Specifications |
| Part 1 | General |
| A. | Summary |
| Protect existing trees not specifically designated for removal, including pruning, protection and irrigation during site work and construction. |
| B. | Quality Assurance |
| Pruning and transplanting work shall be done as directed by Owner. |
| C. | Scheduling |
| Install barricades before starting construction. |
| D. | Guarantee |
| If a tree to remain is destroyed, or damaged so that in the judgment of the Owner's Representative or the Owner it should be replaced, it shall be removed at Contractor's expense. Damages will be assessed at the rate of $350.00 per inch of circumference at 12 inches above grade for trees with a diameter of 8 inches or less and at DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) for diameters greater than 8 inches. |

| A. | Tree Protection Materials |
| 1. | Barricade: |
| a. | Fabric: Utility (snow) type fencing, 6 feet high, consisting of 2 inch wood lath woven between 7 double strands galvanized wire. Space between lath shall not exceed 2 inches. |
| b. | Posts: Metal or wood, sufficient to hold fabric plumb and taut. Posts to be approved by Owner. |
| 2. | Anti-desiccant: Manufactured for use on plants. Provide evidence that material can by used on specified trees. Do not use anti-desiccant without approval of Owner. |
| Part 3 | Execution |
| A. | Construction Requirements |
| 1. | Protect existing trees from damage or injury. |
| 2. | Permit no traffic, storage, disposal, fires or stockpiling within dripline. |
| 3. | Prevent puddling or continuous running water within dripline. |
| 4. | Earth surface within dripline shall not be changed. Existing mulch layer under trees shall remain. |
| 5. | Exercise extreme care in removing concrete or asphalt within dripline. Paving pieces shall be lifted rather than dragged. Protect surface roots immediately with 4 inch layer of chipped mulch. |
| 6. | At start of construction, irrigate trees as directed by subsurface pressure injection. Soil with dripline shall be moist to 18 inch depth. |
| 7. | Work within dripline shall be as directed by Owner. Trenching, grading or excavation within dripline shall be done by hand. Pipes shall be jacked or bored. Protect exposed roots with wet burlap. |
| 8. | Clearly mark trees to remain with removable flags of a different color than trees flagged for removal. |
| B. | Barricades |
| 1. | Install barricades around trees to remain. |
| 2. | Locate fence at dripline as directed by Owner. |
| 3. | Locate roots before setting post. Prevent damage to roots. |
| 4. | Space posts approximately 4 feet apart and securely attach fabric. |
| 5. | Barricade shall be plumb, taut and sturdy. |
| 6. | Repair sagging or damaged barricades immediately. Remove barricades upon completion of work. |
| c. | Prunning |
| 1. | Only as directed by owner. |
